One more race…kinda. After getting pummeled down at Parker a few weeks ago I’ve had an interesting two weeks. Felt pretty good in the road race at Parker, worked a bit of a combine as I was on my own and ended up being on the losing end of the deal. My bud rode a strong race but was outfoxed by the Iceman himself. Scott Moninger. Scott never ceases to impress me, strong as he was ten years ago and by far the smartest bike racer in the US. Anyways. Finished up the race pretty hammered and rolled over to Menzies’ for a little house party. Wasn’t in the mood for a big night but stuck around long enough to see Zirbel get some lines shaved in the side of his head. Already was rocking the mullet and faux hawk. With the lines added in I think that he has the coolest haircut in bike racing. Left the party just in time. Shortly after I left a wrestling match broke out and the cops arrived. Good times. Went for a glider ride on Monday. Became incredibly ill. Had a blast cruising over the Boulder canyons and Flatirons. Never need to do it again.
Headed down to the Olympic Training Center after that. Put in a week on the velodrome with Colby Pearce and a bunch of other roadies. Actually had a really good time. Wasn’t sure how pedaling at 130 rpm was going to feel but adapted pretty quickly and had a good time. Hoping to get to LA in December and put in some more time on that track. Hopefully get good enough to do some racing next year at a high level. And Zirbel got more lines shaved into his head while at the OTC.
Decided to put in a little Vegas time. Didn’t really want to go to Interbike but felt as if a little Vegas experience was in order. Flew into Vegas 5pm Friday afternoon. No luggage, no hotel…just a credit card and cell phone in the pocket. Headed to Caesar’s Palace and met up with friends at Bradley Ogden’s. Had an amazing meal at the chef’s table at Ogden’s. Highlight of the night were the beverages…here is the rundown:96 and 99 Cristal brut. 96 Cristal Rose. 96 Latour and 96 Lafite. And to top it off a 95 Vega Sicilia. Unreal. Headed to Pure from there…and things got a bit fuzzy. Pure nightclub atop Caesar’s overlooking the strip. Had a few VIP tables and several more bottles of Cristal. Dancing ensued. Watched the sun rise. Then caught an 8am flight back to Boulder. Rode that afternoon. Best way to do Vegas I’d say.
Headed to Melbourne on Wednesday for Sun Tour.
