Getting better.

Well, after a busy week of aggressive therapy the knee is feeling better.  Just got back from a tempo ride up lemmon with no knee pain at all.  One more physical therapy session this afternoon with John Woolf at Proactive Physical Therapy.  Big thanks to Dan Taylor at Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for all the help as well.  Kinda hit the knee problem from all sides, Eastern and Western medicine.  I’m very fortunate to have such great support from the Tucson cycling community, great place to be a cyclist!

Acupuncture.

Just back from another acupuncture session, DT is really going all out to get me back on my feet in time for Georgia. Headed out the door for a ride, if all is well and we hit the right acupuncture points then I should be just about pain free.

Knee issues.

Some serious problems down in Tucson. Been having knee issues all week, thought that I was just having some tightness after pushing too hard in training but it appears that I’ve developed some persistent tendonitis. My IT band and Vastus Lateralis are both tight and are inflamed at the attachment points around the knee. I’ve taken it very easy this week with the goal of allowing the inflammation to go down. No big deal, my coach was planning a taper for me this week pre-Georgia for me anyways. Got some deep massage work and some DT acupuncture. Went out today for my first longish ride in 6 days and bam. Pain was back to the same point it was 6 days prior. Not icepick in the side of the knee pain but a solid 7 out of 10. I’ve got some electro stim going on it now to try to increase blood flow to the area but I’m afraid that I might be seriously screwed. Just hoping that the electro stim + physical therapy will have me good as new in a day or two. Blah.

My thoughts are with Saul Raisin this morning, last night after a crash in the Curcuit de la Sarthe doctors had to induce a coma after a hematoma burst in his brain causing hemorrahaging. Currently his condition in the French hospital in Angers is serious.
Saul is one of the most talented young americans racing in Europe today and was focusing on this years Giro D’italia. His first grand tour.

At two minutes and three seconds past one o’clock this morning the time was 123456. This will happen again 100 years from now.
